Bearings on bikes.
 

I'm not sure you're take on types of bearings for say headstock, wheel etc but a lot of complaints re the quality of such products, like Pyramid or All balls saying they are crap. I have not found these to be so.
I'm sure there are some iffy bearings around, but I have to say that there are far more interesting individuals replacing them in let's say 'The Birmingham Method' kind of way which in turn leads to premature failure.( BTW, this phrase is not of my making, so don't shoot the messenger!)
As these are very precise items, hammering these brittle circles in a hole really is asking for trouble.
For the cost of a beer ( not sure what a pint costs any more), but recon the cost of a length of m12 studding( threaded rod) and a couple of nuts and washers and sockets of just a fraction less than bearing diameter will see a bearing wound in true to its captive surrounding.
My reason for saying this, was having passed a small workshop in a large town recently I was amazed to see the Birmingham method being applied to some unsuspecting owners moped.

If the bearing is tapped into place with something round the same size as the outer casing I cant see a difference. I usually use an appropriate size socket or the removed bearing case. The same argument could be made for distorting the shell as it enters the socket if you 'pull' it in, with something larger like headstock bearings I have found this happens.
