Default Bag O Hammers.....

Just curious as to how many owners bikes sound like a bag of hammers when started from cold but then settle down after a few minutes warming up. I've had seven cbr1000's now and all of them, to some degree, have sounded really rough when started from cold but a few gentle miles warming up, perform fantastically. Everytime i start my bikes i get the urge to strip the topend and replace the CCT but i've learned this is only a shortterm solution. Anyone out there got a smooth starting bike and if so how come...?

Had same problem as you describe.

Just part of the CBR charm.

Its not just old bikes. I hear a New R6 startup the other day when cold. It sounded worse then the CBR!

Every morning I think "****...I'll have to re-build the top end", but by the time I get to work, I'm over it. I think the old girl just takes a while to get it together in the morning. Another thing we've got in common!

Yep, same here. After she warms up, sounds real nice, even after 16K miles and 18 years. My previous '87 Hurricane DID NOT quiet down, which led Honda to believe the ACG generator chain was loose, and needed replacing. Sold the bike.
