The only downside I see is that the product is based on shellac derived from the premenstrual secretions of an extremely rare grasshopper found only in the highlands of Patagonia.
This grasshopper is one of the major food sources for a virtually unknown tribe of Patagonian pygmy's. The harvesting of these grasshoppers is almost certain to spell the end of their pygmy kind of way of life.
Unfortunately, their other major food source is the larvae of killer wasps.
So, without their grasshoppers to eat; they will all move to major cities and collect benefits and steal cars.
This will, of course, leave the killer wasp population unchecked. They will then repopulate further north, eventually arriving in Maine during the summer of 2016.
But in the mean time you will probably have really sharp looking luggage.
So, I say, yes, give it a go and report back. It seems to be a very recently released product.
Maybe you can be of the "early adopters" and let us all know how it goes?

Well gee willikers Sprock, maybe you can layer some of that stuff on your goggles to make your own tear offs.
OH! And by the way TK, those grasshoppers can fend for themselves. Never approach them without full protective body armor or else. The Patagonian pygmy's have learned how to deal with them and pass those secrets down form generation to generation. They and only they can safely disarm an adult Patagonian grasshopper.

Too funny as usual ! I think the tear off's might work TBT but only on Sunday
mornings when that kind of visual perspective can be known to occur
Ah TK - think I will give it a spin on some new very easily scratched Trekkers I got
either that or uninstall the Trekker alum covers and go with the plain black plastic
underneath.
Buehler - so anyone actually have some smarts & experience with this stuff ? or no
Trying to find out exactly how tough it is ?

hmmm saw those TBT - thinking of also applying coats to the Hurricane Gas Tanks
as well since they take quite a beating with tank bags etc.
Pretty much decided to take a ride over the AutoZone in Stratham NH tomorrow
to grab a can
Only criticism I have is 3M got a bit greedy with the pricing of this coating which
requires reapplication every year or so @ $24 a can ! $14 or so would be more
to the point given the annual "reapplication scenario" !!!! I'd probably keep a good
stock of the stuff if it were more reasonably priced.
