Default Anyone ever cut up thier cans??

Has anyone ever openned up standard silencers from a gen2 1kf? If so are there any pics around as i will probably be trying to open up my cans and do a bit of a repair/modification job. Might even end up replacing the outer skin with stainless.
I was hoping to get some idea of weld points and internals before i start grinding and cutting.
Cheers
Damo

there are loads of videos on you tube showing can autopsies.

I opened up my gen1 cans, repacked them and fitted carbon fibre covers.
very simple inside them... I was going to fit jack daniels tin trims over the carbon at one point.....but then I sobered up...

I should revisit that...

edit. I used stainless steel rivets rather than welding.

If you do open them up, maybe a bigger dia. outlet pipe. No need to get carried away but it would help it breath. I have a TB slipon and K&N, rejetted to take care of the e-gas and lean condition from factory and it moves now, it really moves now.

Here's a start - not exactly what you asked for ... but a start.
I had my original cans re-skinned. Just wire brushed out the rust, re-skinned and painted original color.

OK, you go up ahead and find where the police are hiding and I'll be right along.LOL But seriously, the more free it flows, the louder it gets.

Last night I heard stories about Americade this year. HD riders were getting ticketed for Screaming Eagle pipes that were put on by the HD dealership when the bike was bought. Reason given...not OEM. That's not right. They put them on other models and they aren't way to loud.

The end cap picture that Naga_Thai just posted shows a restricted pipe that gets more open before it exits the cap. What would happen if the pipe were cut and the restricted pipe tossed?

I did basically (or equivalent) to that on my DRZ400S by switching out the end cap with a power tip. Sounds like a real dirt bike now and has more power by reducing the restriction and I keep the stock pipe.
