Another new Hurricane owner
Figured i would introduce myself here first. I just bought a 94 CBR1000F last night as a new winter project(last was an 81 GS750L). The body is in pretty good shape for its age, aside from a few scratches. Well the guy I bought it from said he could not get it running, it has 18,xxx miles, needs new tires and the chain to be lubed. The guy said he hasnt done the valves yet, and that he did a compression test and it said 65 psi. Though this was on a cold motor w/o the valves having been adjusted. The motor turns over quite well, so we will see. I am gonna pull the carbs apart ensure they are done first, and then do the valves. hopefully that is all I have to do to get it running. I do know the bike has sat for quite a while, so any advice or help would be appriciated.

Pics will come later, weather is getting crappy and the fairings are off since I was doing a one over on the bike. I had to resync the carbs(i used a sewing needle as a guide) then I noticed that he had the spark plug wires crossed(2&3) so I put those back, and went to check the fuel, and no fuel is comming out of the petcock. I put it on reserve and still nothing, maybe too low??? I will get some more fuel tomorrow. I went to turn it over and sprayed a lil starter fuel and it tried to turn over, even backfired a bit. Next is the valve adjustments. I will post pics and more info as I go.

Firstly, welcome!
It sounds like you scored a bargain. My advice would be take the tank off and clean it out properly. Pull the tap and petcock apart and clean them too. Fuel it up, turn on the tap. No fuel will come through without a vacuum on the thin pipe going into the petcock so pull it off the carb and suck on it with the main fuel line also disconnected at the carbs. You should hear it click and fuel should start to flow. Clean out the carbs because there's sure to be crap in the bowls and needle seats. That should sort the fuel side.
Is the battery ok? These bikes will not spark properly if the battery is crapped out, even if the engine seems to be cranking ok. Try a jump start or borrow a battery off someone to rule that out too.
With fuel and a spark she should fire up mate.
Sorry if I've siad what you already know but i don't know what you know..if you know what I mean.
Have a snoop around on the forum and you'll find manuals to download. If you have trouble just ask. There's a good bunch of smart ars...I mean guys on here.
regards,
Dave.

Thanks man, yea i am quite familiar with workin on bikes, but I appriciate the tips. I checked the tank and she looks clean. I will check the petcock like you suggested. I was hoping that the bike had a primer like my old gs750 did. Also the carbs were cleaned, atleast was told so by the guy I bought it from. And when I checked the float heights the bowls looked clean, and I could see that it has been pulled apart. I will dive into this a lil more when the weather turns around. I also had to use a jump since the battery is dead. I did find the manual and already down loaded it to my PC. Thanks again!

No problem. This is the first bike I've ever had with the vacuum petcock thing. It's a good idea except for, when you've got a fuel leak it only runs out when the engine's running. I had a split fuel line and was riding along smelling fuel but when I stopped I couldn't find a drop. I sucked on the control tube and fuel p!ssed out...all over my 4 into 1. Might be worth throwing on some new fuel lies too maybe. Let us know when you fire her up and put up a couple of pics too when you can.
