Am I Crazy?
 

Up to last year I had been running Battleaxe BT016's front and rear and liked the way they handled. Last year I burned through my rear tire and desided to try a BT023 on the back based on comments from you guys. So far, so good except that the BT023 seems to take more efort to bank into a turn.
Now the front is shot. I took a real close look yesterday and on the left side I've worn threw the tread to the carcus. There's tread towards the center and close to the outer edge, but inbetween it's smooth.
Long story short, I ordered an S20 for the front. It's supposed to wear better tha the 016pro, the replacement for the 016.
So I'll end up with a "Hypersport" front and a sport touring rear.
Is that crazy?

No. IMHO :D

I have even run radial and cross plies before with no great problems.

Probably means I ride slower these days. :D

Meh, it's been done. I know guys on the track who ran Pirelli slicks on the rear and Pirelli street tires on the front because they preferred the grip on the rear and the feedback from the front. It's good to experiment and find what suits you. Just make sure to keep an eye on tire pressure both cold and after you've had a good run and play with those until they feel good.

That makes it a HyperTourer :D

A flat spot like that could be indicative of, believe it or not, failing wheel bearings - !! I had one side go out on me and within 600K's I had ruined a perfectly good front tyre.
Tyre pressures could also be a culprit...............

I run 016 Battleaxe front and rear, and have used everything except Shinko or Dunflop.
The OEM tyres on the bike are 016's, but if you go back to the 170 rear instead of the 180/17 I run, the steering response will be better.

The front wheel and S20 are at the shop now being mounted and balanced. Both sides of the 016 were worn way down to almost no tread. There was a little tread left in the center. I had 6500 miles on the tire.
The wheel bearings are relatively new. I put them in 3 years ago when I got a used wheel to replace the one I bent avoiding an A****le sitting across the road on a blind curve.
