Default All shadows fault (alternator failure).

Well yesterday, I replaced. The R/R with the R1 R/R and found that at 5000 RPMs. I was registering 13.8 V, and at idle 11.9 V so immediately replaced the R1 R/R with the factory regulator / rectifier exact same results. Ran through the basic diagnostic steps and found that one of the three phases measured no ohms resistance at all. The other to registered 3.2 ohms and strangely enough was unable to acquire a voltage reading in AC at all. so I have spent the better part of the day searching for a reasonably priced replacement, because for what Honda wants for a new one. I can almost damn well replace the bike or hell buy a used complete motor so if anyone has any insight on where to obtain a used or rebuilt alternator or if you think I have missed something in the diagnostics process. Please feel free to enlighten me

Hi Gunny, I see it's all my fault - OK, then I'd better try helping..he he
The first time I tried getting readings off the alternator, (stator)I got none. I then found I was using the wrong setting on the multimeter........ If you're getting 13.8V at 5000, it's not perfect, but there's definitely voltage getting through. 11.9V from a standard reg/rec is fairly normal, they don't charge much below 2500 revs, which is why so many guys who use their bikes for short hops complain of starting problems. Before going to the expense of getting another alternator I'd recheck the settings on the multimeter - must be set to ac current, under 200V. I'd also check continuity on the 3 (I think) wires from stator(alternator) to reg rec, maybe one's damaged.(the housing with windings is available for $214 for the Hurricane.) Try www.RegulatorRectifier.com -they have all sorts of reg recs and stator coils.
My son's almost an electrical engineer, and HE made an error too........

All is not lost..........
I'll PM you suppliers details after I search them out.

Hardcorp, I thought you were the big hard man, not a big girl's blouse. You said it was all Shadow's fault, so my question is, what are you going to do about it (him)?

I fully intend to handle the matter with a trip to the coast of South Africa. But I'm going to stop in Great Britain first to let you have an opportunity to clarify your statement

Let's get back on track here......hopefully the pics explain what I I was trying to say, Gunny-
if it needs further discussion, PM me.........the place that has the alternator cover is
www.mrcycles.com - US$214.95. Looks like an OEM replacement.
