Default 94 1000F Value/Review?

Hey folks, I'm brand new to the forum. Looking to make a trade for a 1994 CBR 1000F with 28k miles. I'm having a bit of a problem determining the fair price for the bike... NADA has the average retail at about $2800, private listings are few... and more like $3500 or so. Anybody out there want to enlighten me? How about a performance review?

Thanks,

Steve

Hey steveboot, a big 1K welcome. I'm no expert, just my two cents. Lots of variables to dial in here for price. I check ebay all the time for bikes and spares and have kept a record of many of the '94's, as I have one. Over the past 18 months to 2 years, I have more than 6 or 8 examples. They have Buy It Now from $2900 for VGC with 17k milesto $4350 for mint with only 9k miles. There was one with 27K miles with a pipe, Corbin seat + all the original stuff that sold for $2225. One listed as showroom with 13k on the clock sold at $3300. So time of year, location, as well as condition of the bike come into play. If it looks like it's been cared for, Maintenance records, mature owner(s), And you won't have to buy tires, $250, chain/sprokets $250, or the Cam Chain Tensioner$???, over $3000 might be OK.
Think there was a thread on purchase price. Good Luck!

I think that CB2CBR is right on. One other observation that I've made is that you don't see many of them. Not that they're collectors items or something like that, but people that own them really appreciate them andtend to keep them. This bike is not necessarily the best in any one category, but it's quite strong in many of them. I don't think you you'll be sorry that you've acquired one, once you have it.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. If we can schedule it, I'm meeting my prospective CBR this weekend...

At what mileage do the chain and sprockets normally need to be changed? And how can you tell if the tensioner needs replacing? I'm coming from a long line of shaft drive bikes, so I'm not overly familiar with the signs of wear for these items.

Thanks.

I have a 88 with50000k onit gotit at 24000k still hasfactory chain on it but i am up for my third set of tyres. The timingchain rattleswhen it is coldbut not for long. I thing if you service them every 5000k you will get a long run. Motor oiland filter every 5000k, fork oilevery 10000k, brake and clutch fluidevery year, lube the chain every week. In my opinion they are a bike like on other. Short or long ride they can bring a smile to your face all you have to do isturn the throttle to the stop and hang on........john

Drive chain and sprocket service life, if maintained, should go 20, maybe 25k miles. Better chains, better care= more miles. The Cam Chain Tensioner is a crap shoot. Most everyone says they all make noise at start up and cold engine. How much warm up??? I hate the noise!!!! Mine only has 15k on it and it's more than I can stand so it's getting changed out as soon as I put the 750F back on the road this month. A fleet average is more like over 30k for the CCT. Anyone else want to chime in on that?

There is a '94 on ebay, ends tomorrow, starting at $2800. No bids. It's in Troy, Ohio.
