Default 94' 1000F with 26K

Hey guys,

I just got this bike off ebay (for 2300, been layed down once with minor cosmetic damage) and I must say that I'm thrilled with it! Its my first bike and I wasn't quite sure I could handle all 998CCs of power. But I have to say that its a dream to ride and I hope that I can keep her around for a while.

With that in mind I just wanted to get some idea on good manitiance ideas and thoughts to keep her purrrring like a kitten.

I'm looking into getting the (obviously missed) 24K tune up. Is this a rip off or would it be a good idea just to get it done professionally. I've done work on cars but like I said this is my first bike and I really don't have anywhere to work on my bike becuase I live in an apartment.

Thoughts, Ideas, am I crazy?

EDIT: Also seems like she is eating gas. I thought the MPG rating was about 40+ I'm getting just over 25 on a bad day. I'm running her on 87 sometimes and 91 others. It smells like it is running rich and idles at about 12K (no choke). Is that bad or normal?

I think I saw your bike on ebay. Congratulations. You should get 40mpg. It's running rich. The carbs have to be cleaned. It's not hard to do, but it is involved. I would bring it to a good dealer and get valves adjusted and carbs cleaned. They will probably also change plugs, oil, and check the brake and clutch fluid. Have them also check the brake pad thickness.

Thats what I was planning on. But I'm glad that at least I'm not going crazy about it running rich. Gotta pop for another $530 for the tuneup, parts, and labor. But she is worth it.

I know why you guys love these bikes so much. I'm deffinetly a honda fan.

EDIT: Where the heck is the reserve switch on this thing. I sware I can't find the damn thing. (Or am I just a retard)

It's in that big round hole by the tank on the left side of the seat. [8D]

BTW I'm just teasing you.

Nice bike, good taste in year!! Hehehhe..
But why oh WHY would you start on a 1000cc bike??? Once you get her tuned up, don't be hamfisted she can suprise u. It will move a lot more than you can believe. I'm in the market right now for a rear fox shock for mine, and a works kit for the front to get better handling in the twisties. Sometimes with enough throttle, I can still lift the front wheel in the turns!! That's mighty scary for a beginner, so you must be extremely cautious. Its not being careful that will get you in trouble, its the panic situations that a newb won't know how to handle that can get you in very very bad trouble. Your starting on a Championship winning bike in '94, so keep that in mind while you are learning.. I can't believe I'm saying that!! Good luck!!! Keep the rubberside down..

Last guy must have covered it up with his "seat mod" .

I'll have to do some disassembly. Thanks!

I got it for a good price and it was the only sport bike in the area I could afford. She has a lot of power now but she won't bring up the front with any amount of throttle (yeah I tried). Now your just making me scared. I'm learning quickly and I'm not for rushing into crazy things so I'm going to get A LOT more comfortable before I go crazy with twisty roads and such.

But I deffinetly need to learn so I can beat that damn lambo that spanked me! I would love to beat his a$$ and then say "I just beat your $120K car on a $2300 bike."
[/rant]

ok, I digress. Love your bike firefox
