87 Cbr 1000F Hurricane.
 

Need help, my 87 Hurricane 1000f has no spark. I've tested wires for the past 4 days and have found out that I have no power going to my cdi box. I've replaced the pulse generators. I also belive my voltage regulator is bad (not charging battery). Could this cause no spark? The bike will crank over freely. Any help is appreciated.

Whilst your waiting for one of our more experienced 1000 riders to come along ,have checked the safety systems that will cause a no start, I would look at the kill switch first

Yes as Bill says, kill switch and also sidestand switch.

Unless mine's been disabled, the '87 doesn't have a sidestand switch

Go down the checklist:
Fuses
Ground
Battery charge and check battery cables for corrosion
Kill switch, as mentioned above
Pulse generators. See the stick coil mod in the How-to section

All good tips. +1 for the basics (fuses, battery voltage, connections tight etc.)

If you have no spark at any of the plugs, it'll most likely be upstream of the coils

Did you say you have no voltage at the CDI? ie you probed the 6 pin connector and got zilch? That definitely points to a killswitch or electrical fault upstream of the spark unit. If you suspect regulator/rectifier that would be the first thing I'd check out as they are a known weakness on these bikes

The service manual has a good flowchart on testing the ignition system. Probably worth checking out if you haven't already. Good luck

Looking at what you've done checked and replaced I'd be thinking your ignition switch and or ignition wiring might well be the issue

If she is cranking, you most likely have a bad wire going to the CDI. The R/R is part of the charging system. That won't stop it from running as long as the battery is up and it is cause its cranking. I would not replace anything, I'd look for a broken wire to the CDI.
I also doubt it's a switch. If a switch fails it won't crank. That's a big part of the puzzle, she is in fact cranking.

Yea I've checked the cdi plugs no power I've replaced the battery and the pulse generator. I've split open the wire harness and have seen nothing out of the ordinary. Is there tip sensor maybe it is that on newer bikes only. I'd just like to ride the ole bike again she's been reliable until this point.

Also I guess some back story might help the bike was running and driving fine. I put her up for 2 weeks. Went to get her out and nothing.
