1990 cbr1000fl charging help needed
Hi I have a 1990 cbr1000fl when i connect a multi meter across my battery i get 12v or less even when reving headlites dont get brighter while revving either and although i can ride for hours with no headlights on if i turn headlights on within 10-20 miles it kills my battery and cuts out my bike, i have just ordered a new regulator / rectifier , the battery is already a new gel type and i have done the resistance check on the stator wires and all the readings were within what the workshop manual says they should be , but i was hoping someone could tell me how to check the voltage output from the stator and what value it should be as this isnt in the workshop manual, as i need my bike for sun 18th as am going on the ride of respect to royal wootton bassett and so just want to cover all bases b4 the new regulator rectifier arrives

If you've checked that the coils on the stator don't have any shorts, they should be
good. The r/r is gonna take care of the DC voltage output, and charging issue.
That said, when I replaced my first r/r, my stator wasn't testing as bad. Within 3
months after doing so, my r/r was going bad again and this time the stator did test
out with a bad leg. So, I ended up replaced both. So it IS possible to have a later
failure of the stator, if you've had a bad r/r. Or, could be bad karma to me. lol
If it's absolutely, mission-critical and you can afford to do it, I would just spend the
bucks and replace it, anyway. Electrolex is the go-to source from what I understand,
for you brits.
Good luck, Ern
