1990 cbr1000f coolant troubles
Hey guys, i recently bought a 90 cbr1000f. My first ride i took the left radiator hose blew. I replaced it and filled er up with some green coolant. Today i noticed some coolant spray on the fairing when gassing up. I got her home and took the fairings off, i noticed a hose being sucked flat and a hose a little further up bulging. When i rev the bike coolant sprays out the hose. I uploaded a video to youtube for you guys to see. Any ideas what the problem could be? Im thinking thermostat?

Well that hose has a hole due to old/dry rubber. They get brittle and crack. Replace it.
Remove thermostat and see if sucked hose goes away, then you know you have a stuck thermostat. |
okay will do, do you think there are other problems as well since the hose before it is being sucked flat and that hose with the hole is bulging like that?

The most common cause for radiator hose collapse is a vacuum issue caused by a faulty radiator cap. Another common problem is clogging of the smaller radiator runoff hose, which leads to the coolant tank. As the engine cools, if fluid can not return to the tank, this will also cause a vacuum.

All good advice so far.
I'd also back flush the radiator while you have the hoses off. Just stuff a garden hose in the bottom outlet, pack it with rags to minimise water loss and turn it on. Once you get good clear water flowing out the top, you are done. |
Ah ok thanks guys. I am noticing the coolant in the tank is a different color than whats in the radiator. Im taking the thermostat out tommorow and the hoses. I really appreciate the advice. Im hoping to be able to get the hoses off without having to take too many parts off.
