1988 600f1 VS 1987 1000f.... Interchangeability
Theres a local bike up for sale in my area. a 1988 cbr 600f1.. its got a good body, running motor, good transmission, but no title and missing most ferrings..
now, im perfectly fine with a naked bike.. but, i ALSO happen to have a 1000f sitting in my garage I was going to turn into a winter project (that I think would need more work then this bike).. but what im wondering is, what all parts will swap over? will my 1000 engine fit in the 600? would the headlight assembly and such be swappable? ect ect ect.
Thanks in advance.

When you look at the haynes manual the similarities look endless but without looking in great detail I would be unsure myself. What are you propsing to swap. If you have both bikes in front of you then with all the plastic off the that might give you a better idea of the task ahead. Would be interesting to know how how you get on... Good luck

just been looking into the manual & if you could compare the width of the main frame and length of the swing arm you might be able to make a final decision if this was atall possible. But I agree, if it were then yeh, it would make a nifty motor. My only concern would then be, would you be able to put the 1000 fuel tank on as you would'nt get very far on the 600's fuel capacity. One to think about?

Hey:
The only thing thats common to both is the front wheel and speedo drive. And maybe the headlight is the same or close. (My 600f1 was a race bike and had no lights) The frame is not that light, nor is it as long and has a smaller engine cage area as the carbs/ airbox are setup differently. The rear axle and swingarm are smaller as are the brakes (rear is a 3 bolt and both are smaller in diameter), forks and clip ons are 37mm, the fairings are different, as is the seat and electrics, and are nowhere near as good a bike as the f2 and up 600s which they have little in common with, except the cbr 600 moniker.
Also no engine/tranny parts are common between the 1000 and 600
They are not like the cbr 1000f bikes where most parts are shared, simular or only an improvement as they get newer and can be made to work on an older bike most of the time with a little work.
If you wanted a lighter frame look to an 93-95 cbr900rr as they are very light and could work with (welding modifications and lots of labor time) as I have seen it done but the bike was a streetfighter with a taylor ss arm and 240 rear tire conversion and may have started out as a cb1000f engine which is the same as earlier cbr1000f 87-89 minus 1 gear. I seen it at the F1 GP race at Hockenheimring in 01, and I took pictures but my camera and laptop were lost by the airline and never recovered.
