1000f title question

So I have a 1993 honda cbr1000f with a slavage title. I just found a guy who had a replacement engine that i bought with only 12,000 miles on it! I'm going to put this motor in my bike because mine is blown. I just want to make sure that it wasn't stole or anything like that. I know I have to get special paper work and all that. I live in NY and don't want to put it in my bike if it the engine was stolen. Do they look at the motor vin number when they do salvage bike inspections? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

why would they look at the motor for an inspection?

Engine number and frame numbers are checked as far as I know. Check with your local DMV ......
They can also tell you if the new motor is stolen if you ask them.......

thank god we dont have inspection to care about.

Up here ....... after 15 years of age you need no papers just "a" VIN and a bill of sale.

Wonder if NY has the same deal ? if so the title would be a moot point ! and subsequently the motor too

If it's anything like the inspections in GA they'll barely check the frame's vin, nevermind the motor ... usually the most important thing is the inspection fee. You could try calling your DMV to ask but I suspect they'll be clueless.

Think you're gonna get a lot of different answers. Its gonna vary state to state.

Technically I believe all state salvage inspectors are supposed to crawl up your a$$ with the Hubble telescope before issuing a reconditioned title. Receipts for all parts put in the vehicle, with serial #s if the part is supposed to have one (engines, frames, ect). And they're supposed to verify all that information and check the serial numbers to see if its stolen.

I suppose you could get the engine #, go to your local Honda dealer and see if they can track it.

also, where on the engine block is the vin number located?

If you were doing that here that bike would be checked from top to bottom and if one number was wrong on either the VIN or engine you would not get it passed. Here in NSW the RTA are anal about that stuff. If it looks like there is something dodgy with vin or engine numbers here, we ( police ) are called in and the scientific branch go over it with a fine tooth comb to see if they can find any original numbers that may have been scraped off etc. Like someone said it varies state to state and country to country.
