It's most likely illegal. It a police officer saw the red and blue lights whether you're on the road or not, you'd probably be cited....careful....

Neat mod. I like it a lot but generally this would be illegal for most places. This would be great at a show

Here in CO, blue lights are only unlawful if facing foward, like those blue LED fluid sprayers.

What!? I just found this while looking for the laws on lighting on vehicles:

Are Clear Tail Lamp lenses (with red bulbs) legal in Texas? NO Clear tail lamp lenses utilizing red bulbs which do not meet SAE standard J585e, (September 1977) are not in compliance with federal standards (NHTSA, 49 CFR 571.108). Under §547.3215, this standard has been adopted by Texas and therefore it is in violation of Texas law; §547.322; §547.325; and is punishable as a class C misdemeanor under §547.004(a)(3).
