Default New Tire Question

I found a screw in my rear tire today. I have never bought tires for a motorcycle and have a few questions. Do you have to replace both the front and rear at the same time? Do you have to have matching tire brands and models for the front and rear?

Thanks for the help.

You do not have to replace both, if you think your front is in fine condition just change out the rear. As far as matching tires i personally prefer it that way, but again not necessary. Most of the manufacturers use different compounds, heat cycling, and other factors. So for example you are out tearing up some turns, your front tire may stick better then the back tire, or have more lean angle. Ifyou dont ride really aggressive, and its just a commuter its probably not as big a deal, but if you ride hard at all i would try to match them up. If you cant find a rear, and the front is questionable at all, then now might be the time to get some new for both, that way at least you know where you stand.

+1 If you push your bike you'll be surprised how 2 different tires feel

IMO always have a matched set. Compounds are different and can severe handling problems.

This is terrible advice, they put cheap tires on the bike. The Dunlops they use for OEM are different than the Dunlops you buy direct. Where do they find these people?

Like TK954 said, if your not riding hard, don't sweat it too much. but if your laying some extreme angles or anything go with matching rubbers. it's the tire profile that becomes the issue at that point. some tires are made to lean over quicker and some are not as pointy and give better straight line stability. so if they are mis-matched, the front and rear will react differently.
