Widest Tire on 94 900rr

Just seeing if anyone knows the widest tire that can go on a stock back rim without any problems

Hondas Rule 07-03-2010 02:15 PM

190 is the widest, Same tire the 929 & 954 runs. I stick with the 180, The wider the tire the harder it is to throw into corners. I had a 160 on my RR for a while, It looked a little funny but would handle more like a 600F3

The 929 and 954 have a 6" wide rear wheel. If you have a 5.5" rear wheel the 180 is the largest you can safely run on your bike. A 190 installed on a 5.5" wheel changes the profile of the tire.

While it does change the profile, Race bikes have been running 190's on them in the early years on a 5.5" wheel. I personally wouldn't put the 190 on my bike, But to each his own

Race bikes would never run a 190 on a 5.5" wheel. If you leaned the bike far enough to get to the edge of the tire you would have very little tire in contact with the road. This would cause a crash in most cases. For someone who mostly cruises around town and never uses all of their tires then you can get by putting the 190 on the 5.5" wheel. If you do use all of your back tire to the edge just remember you are risking everything by running the 190. In my opinion safety should come first.
