Need help bike dies in first!

so heres the scoop...picked up a 2000 f4 about a month ago andits been great to me until recently. I pull up to a light bike is in first (oh and the bike was runninga little warm)so the fan kicks in and i watch the rpm's drop slowly until it just dies. i also have been having trouble putting the bike into neutral its too hard to shift (either it goes into 2nd or just wont go into gear at all) so i take it to a shop and they adjust the cable said it had too much free-play. so it fixes the problem until tonight i was riding and it happened again. this is so frustraiting could someone please help?

I don't think it is the kickstand switch. Wouldn't that make it just shut off almost instantly/not start.

I have read several things on this websiteand I would probably be inclined to purse the following first. The "alternator" on the F4's isn't up to the task when you are sitting still, and consequently when the fan kicks on it draws a lot more power than the bike it producing. This tends to be especially true if your idle is low (ie <1500 rpm). I know that many replace the rectifier/regulator with an upgraded version to combat this problem. Supposedly it is only a 10 minute job.

Give us some more details on what happens - does it start right back up? Is it running rough before hand? How does the temp guage act?

Also, this isn't really a "modification" and you would probably be better served having posted this in the F4 section as opposed to the "600 modifications" forum - you might get more traffic, and better responses.

It sounds to me like the clutch was replaced and the clutch stack wasn't measured for the proper clearence and hence the clutch is dragging due to thermal expansion. The clutch cable may be comepletely hammered and is need of replacement. this could especially be the case if the previous owner installed stiffer clutch springs.
