How To Make Custom R1/F3 or F4I/F3,F2 Fairings PDF Ebook ??
No its not that easy. My current fairing is my third attempt. Now I have it down to a science. You have to cut the fairings a certain way so that it semi fits together as well as inside each other. Once the R1 fairing is sitting inside the F3 upper you have to trim and sand away some of the F3 upper to maintain the R1 swept look. Then you fiberglass it together for strength. Then put in the body fillers and start sanding. Sanding and more sanding.
Then you have to add in some wood screws to hold the rear of the r1 fairing. Then cut the heads off the screws and make them flush.
Its a process that takes more then a couple of paragraphs to explain. It took me 5 days to make the fairing with a few hours a day.
I did not paint it the paint shop did the painting.

ok, thats all that i was looking for, was a basic idea. I plan on getting the book from you one way or another (free or paying). I am in aviation maintenance school right now, and we just finished composites. So I know a little more about this stuff now then when i first replied to this thread, and was curious..
are you able to stick with the upper stays for either the f4i or r1? or did you need to also swap those accordingly? I noticed you are using f4i gauges, but the stay does not look the same at all..

I use the stay, headlights, windscreen, etc for whatever fairing I am using. In this case I am using the R1 stay with a plate mounted to it so I can mount the F4I gauges. In order to mount the stay to the F3/F2 frame you have to first in your build position everything forward to allow enough room for headlights, gauges, handle bar clearance, etc.
Then make a mounting plates that bolts between the F3/F2 frame and to the R1 stay. I had to cut some material away from the R1 stay. I placed a old socket between the R1 stay so that it would not collapse and break when tightened down.
If you want I can help you out when you are ready to build one.

Im still interested in this but its been so long since this started I would like to have a time frame on start to finish so I would know about the money part. I just don't want to pay and not see anything for half a year.
I'm down with getting an inside scoop on your build too. All be it mine is just a hackjob compared with yours.
i'm still trying to mount my exhaust properly (as properly as possible), and now i realized that I probably mounted the R1 rear fairing too far forward, and have lost a half inch worth of play.
ahh, custom jobs.

keeping an eye on this thread as well.
I'm about to do a 05 600RR tail swap on my 96' F3.
Instead of using the 600RR tank side fairings, I was hoping to cut and mold the current F3 sides from the tail onto the 600RR tail.
Thoughts on the process? I'm new to fiberglassing / molding.
