It won't give you more power. Powerplant changes do that. With driveline changes, its give and take. You will gain some acceleration off the line, but lose top end speed. I am not a huge fan of just changing one component of the driveline, especially if it is older and needing replaced. Save/spend the extra $$$'s and get a new chain and rear sprocket while your down there. Keep in mind going JUST -1 in the front will mean you will have to compensate for the slack with your chain tension adjustment. Going -1/+2 'evens' it out a bit.
