Front and rear Sprockets

I have been doing research on sprockets and chains to get a bit more accel, but still be somewhat decent on the highway. I understand that going -1(front) = about 3 in the rear. what I was wondering was what is the difference in doing just -1 in the front, OR just +3 in the rear. A friend told me the front sprocket will just make it more responsive/ twitchy, and that the rear will just ad power in the low rpm. Is this right? and is there more to it, or are they equal? thanks.

what it really has to do with is chain lengths. if you go a lot bigger in the rear and keep the front stock, the lengths of the chains (most are 120) wont fit any more, you'll have to do mods to make them fit. if you want a good highway combo, -1 down front will be good or you can also go -1 front/+2 back (what i have). it runs at higher rpms, but its still decent. great power.

what it boils down to is the gear ratio that you want that accomdates you. id go with renthal or vortex. you can call them and discuss what final drive ratio you want.

o, and make sure you go with a 520 chain.- edit
