chains

whats better about getting a better chain? like why do people get other chains? how are they helpful / better over the stock chain? what kinds are available and are different ones used for differnt things?

just wondering because i see alot of people use different chains over the stock.

RE: chains

Over time your chain will wear out, they last longer if you clean/lube them regularly but they are subject to stretching, the o-rings and stuff go bad, they get kinks, that kind of thing.

520 conversions are lighter, less unsprung mass... theoretically your bike will accelerate and slow down faster, and handle better, but you will never notice it.

X-Ring vs O-Ring = Friction versus sealing properties.

They say an X-ring seals better (two lips vs one), and has less friction becaus each lip is thinner.

The X-ring of a DID chain has some some sort of twist, which causes the X-ring to seal itself, instead of an O-ring where the ring needs to be squashed somewhat between the side plates of the chain. Not sure what else there is to tell!
