Top speed

ok so my bikes top speed is around 170 and i would like to know if i went down one tooth on the front sprocket how much top end will i loose. any ideas anyone? also will this give me a lot of uncontrollable torque off the line?

how far of a strech did you have to hit 170. ive hit 155 prety quick but got a little antsy. guess what im sayin is once your at 150 how long till 170 hits?

liek 5 mph off, you should do +2 rear aswell that way you'll actually see a noticable difference in acceleration. even if u threw a 60 tooth rear it wouldnt b uncotrollable just easy as hell to wheelie. going with a -1 +2 setup only sets ur speedo off by 10mph at most.

It sets it off by a percentage. -1 +2 will have like a ~14% speedo error.

Any minor sprocket change will be plenty controllable. And frankly you shouldn't care how much of that top end you'll lose unless you're racing on the track.

so whats the fastest you guys have gone?

What bike did you hit 170 on? A 600? I've hit 163 on mine. Sixth gear @ 15K, that's all she has. And of course actual speed is a little less.

+1 Aken ^^^ it will set it off by a percentage. The faster you go, the more off it will be. It may be 2-3 mph off around 30-40 mph but around 140-150, could be off by 20mph. Get a speedohealer or speedotuner to have a more accurate than stock mph reading.

i got 169 on mine seems like it only took a min maybe 2 to hit that. Good stretch of GA highway.

Everyone who has hit 169 on an f4i need to spend some time with a gps, even the old ten kate bikes would barely do that at mugello... the new cbr600rr is only doing 165 on a good day
good day

Honestly, and I mean honestly, 145 at the top of fifth gear.

randyjoy Jan 19, 2010 12:28 AM

Based purely on the math of RPM and gear ratios, the theoretical top speed of an '08 CBR600RR at 13,500 RPM in 6th gear is 148.7 mph (and that is ACTUAL, not the display everyone seems to think is anywhere near accurate). If you can manage to get more RPM without the rev limited kicking in or blowing up the engine, and you manage to get the horsepower to get it up there, it will go a hair faster.

Dropping -1 in front yields 139.4 mph.
