Default Thoughts about full Akrapovic System...

Been looking around/reading a bit and have decided to go with Akrapovic for my exhaust. Right now I've found two full systems (one street legal and one race) and a slip on. If I were to install the full race system and accidentally ride on the street [sm=smiley15.gif] do you think I would have any problems? Is a cop going to be able to tell the difference? Also, the racing system seems to be a bit cheaper than the Evolution system. Any reason for this? Here's the links were I found them. If you guys know a better site let me know.

If your looking at an Akrapovic system, this is were you want to look for info.
www.akrapovic-exhaust.com

I am waiting for a full system to turn up in the next few days. It is the EVOLUTION in full Ti. from what the akrapovic site said, It shouldn't be a real lot louder than stock. I'm going to be running it on an '03 rr on the road. With a full system a Power Commander is a must. If you get a slip on it should run ok as standard if you don't want to spend the extra coin for the power commander.

Mmmmtitanium.

Keep in mind that a full race system will probably sacrifice some rideability and some of the mid range torque the RR is known for. Ask yourself why you need a full race system on the street....do you competively race ever? If the answer is no, I would not spend the money on a full race exhaust. As for the cops, all they have to is stop you for a technicality if they are at all suspicious of your exhaust system. Then they can easily call it in or look it up and find out if it's legal or not (if they don't know themselves) and you could end up with a confiscated bike. NOT worth the trouble.

Honda engineers go through a lot of trouble designing the exhaust for what is basically a street-legal racing bike -- few other companies, if any, will be able to match the power, noise levels and torque range that the exhaust has in stock form. What you are looking at is a LOT of money for very, very marginal gains -- if any besides more noise.

With the Akrapovic Evolution full system on the '03 RR if you have a look at the dyno chart on their web site the full system actually performs very well for a full race system. Torque is pretty much the same as standard up until 8k and then is quite a lot better there after. However power is down a few HP under 7k but after that is is alot better almost 5Hp all the way to redline. And also makes more power for longer than stock. Another thing to look at is the 6Kg lighter system in Ti than what the OEM system is. I was also looking at a Jardine system and it lost out by about 4HP until it got to about 11k and then really took off. I do agree with Ninjaharhar to a degree, but for me spending as much time on a race track as on the road I'm willing to sacrifice a few Hp in the bottom end.
I just got a note saying that my system is at the post office waiting for me. So looking forward to picking it up tomorrow.

Now all I need is a Power Commander and a K&N filter.
