Tail sliders?

I have frame sliders and swingarm sliders....however, anyone noticed that while most of the bike is saved by these, the tail still takes a beating? Well, after removing all of the reflectors and such, there are some screw holes left empty on the sub-frame. Anyone think of cutting holes in the tail (like on the front fairings) and mounting TAIL sliders? Just an idea i've been thinkin of, and wonderin if anyone has tried this. Seems like if the bike slid on the tail sliders and front frame sliders, there wouldnt' really be much to worry about as far as the plastic is concerned. What do y'all think?

The problem you're going to run into is... the front sliders mount to the engine mounts. There isn't anything that strong on the tail section to support the weight of a crash. But this is my opinion, you might be able to reinforce the area and make it work.

i agree with you--the subframe wouldn't support the weight, especially of a fall....however, at that point you're not looking to save engine covers or cases, the plastic from being scratched. I think a slider (or anything that would keep the plastic off the ground) would inherently help protect from costly plastic damage.

just a good reason to go buy new plastics and make you bike look totally custom

CJ, if you're looking for a reason to upgrade your bike... let me have it for an hour. I'll give you all kinds of reasons. :D

I'm new to the game. I hear everyone talking about Sliders, what are they & what do they do? Where can I see a pic of one?

They are lumps of acetol or simiar hard material which you can attach at various points on the bike to help prevent expensive engine case and/or plastic damage in the event of a fall. e.g below.

If you really want to save your fairings, you should invest in a crash cage or a speed cage. A crash cage wont allow you to take knee scraping curves because the cage will hit. if you get a speed cage you can still do those types of turns.

Also, you can get a 12'o clock bar for the back. believe me. I have used it before when I got side swiped and there wasnt any damage on the bike.
To think, a 12'o clock bar has two uses. One for saving your fairings and two for stopping you from flipping over backwards.
