HID...35W or 55W?

Been on here searching ALL the posts about the HID conversion, and it's the way to go. However, I noticed Xenon Expert had a choice of the HID's of 35W or 55W "racing version". What are your experiences? I know the 07 600RR can handle the 55W, but have seen most kits are 35W. What can you guys tell me about the 55W, is it worth the extra money? Noticed Fox's write up about the newer slimmer ballast not being as bright as the older styles, would the 55W version cure this.

This may be a stupid question but can you use a 35W for the low beam, and a 55W for the high beam?

The eBay store that has been mentioned has 12 kits. 3 kits each for the 5000k, 6000k, 8000k, 10000k. The 4 kits in green are the slimmer ballast, but what is the difference between the 2 other options. Is it just the one is made with Japanese components?

Lastly, what kit would you guys recommend?

6000 to 8000k in slim for your bike. Slims will still be better than halogen lights by a LOT. 55W HID are not street legal so you'd better make sure to aim your lights down if you do buy them.

I have a 35watt low beam and a silverstar high beam and it is great. For light output, keep the kelvin rating below 6000 and you will have plenty.

Start up on an HID is above 35watts or 55 watts so keep that in mind when it come to load on your bikes electrical system.

55w HID's are the surface of the sun. Period. They're EXTREMELY bright compared to 35w HID's, which are EXTREMELY bright compared to stock bulbs. Not to mention, the added heat with the 55w bulbs might cause some melting/warping problems within your headlamp housing.

I would stick with 35w HID's..........and try to fit the larger ballasts on there if you can.

well if they didnt melt i would like to get 55w but if i get hid's i am getting 35w then. i just want to be as bright as possible. at night i would not mind if you could not tell there was a bike but just a ball of light.

Hey Fox, the heat is certainly something to think about, thanks for bringing that up. Do the 35's produce a ton of heat? I'm pondering the idea of 35w for the running light and 55w for the high beam. I ride an extremely dark section of mountain highway at night on my ride home at midnight (through a valley 20 miles with no street lights or...heck no lights of any kind really). How does that setup sound, the high would be on for about 30 min at a time. I know they are illegal, but I...I guess I dont care, I think???? Maybe!!!

You'd be fine on 35w. It'll be a huge improvement without the possibility of the heat destroying your expensive headlamps. I installed a kit on my Honda Prelude and I ran them all the time. Every time the car started, they were on. I never had a melting issue with 35w. They did get plenty warm, but not enough to melt.

ive got the 35w slim ballasts in 6000k and comparing them to the stock lights is like comparing a penny to a hundred dollar bill. they do get pretty warm but its not hot enough where you cant hold you hand on it for a couple minutes. and personally i wouldnt wanna take the chance of having tothrow down that$180 headlamp assy. at the dealer if you didnt feel like using ebay
just my .02

Just one last question. Are the bulbs interchangable? I mean can you put a 55w bulb in a 35w ballast unit, or vice versa?

Thanks for the input everybody, I think I will probably go with the 35w to be safe and legal.
