gearS geaRS geARS gEARS GEARS

Ok so I was looking into changing out my front and rear sprocket, and decided that there has to be another way to get the same effect as a -1 front and +2 back without changing the sprockets themselves. Can this be done by changing the gears in the transmission itself? Has anyone done this before?
That would be some real 'Modding'!!

Maybe its not possible due to space requirements of a larger/smaller gear in transmission....?

The simple answer is no this can not be done. Honda builds these bikes with very little tolerance. If you wanted to change the gears in the tranny would you A) have to be a engineer to design the gears and other components B) Have to be a manufacture to build them C) Have to be a mechanic to install them D) Have to be a millionaire so when it all goes wrong you can just buy a new bike.

Changing the sprockets out is a much easier and cheaper way to get the same effect so why wouldn't you just do that? Sure it might throw your speedo off but that is why they make the speedohealer. Sure the new chain, sprockets and speedhealer might set you back a few hundred bucks but it is saving you thousands upon thousands of dollars compared to new gears themselves.

Why would you want to spend thousands designing a custom crankcase/gear set when you can swap sprockets for next to nothing?

well honestly its a ton of work.
id say 3/4 of the guys on here haven't been inside their engine, and even if they were loaded, its not like theyd prolly do it themselves.

For gearing:
go 520 setup (o or xring chain) with -1,+0 and i guarantee it will be enough low end for you to be happy.

the whole kit should be easily under 150.00 and well worth the investment.

if you're loaded you just buy a bike with more grunt :p
