How many of you guys..and girls, use a gear indicator?? I put one on my 600RR and love it. Dont really use it on the track, but its kinda cool on the streets.

Where do you get those? And how are they installed? On the linkage or what? What happens if you miss a gear?

RE: GEAR Indicator...

Go to www.RiderStation.com.. they make one that plugs in for around 100 bucks. I got mine from www.motosport.com and I had to splice and solder into factory harness, which is fine but a bit more work.
They work in conjunction with the speedo and the tach...taking these numbers and judging what gear your in. Its all electronic... mine showed up with about six wires coming out of the gear indicator...which you find matching wires on your bike, and install. Once installed, you start the bike and touch one of the wire leads to bike positive to enter the program mode, then run in each gear to 2000 rpm to "teach" the indicator and your set. The indicator is a small 1" by 2" box with a number display that can ba mounted anywhere you like. I put mine on the tach side of the gauge cluster, and it fits just fine and is very, very easy to read unlike factory bikes that have gear indicators.

RE: GEAR Indicator...

i personally dont see the reason for a gear indicator... i hate even looken down at the cluster to see what speed im going at .. maybe im just not use to having that luxury just my .02.. btw sabor600rr your cluster looks official did browningbuck change the whole thing out or did he only work on your gear indicator and you bought the rest?

RE: GEAR Indicator...

When I took the superbike class at Laguna Seca, I used the gear indicator quite a bit. It's nice to know it's there at least. But we were told to stay in a certain gears for specific drills, so I guess that's why I used it as much as I did.

I can see it's benefit on the street though. No more searching for a phantom 7th gear. (I do that quite often still.)
