Default '06 RR Frame Slider - Fairing Removal

Hey all,

I need a little help. I'm trying to install frame sliders (requires cutting) on my '06 RR, but I'm having trouble just getting the fairings off. Screws are no problem, it's the two black clips at the tops on either side. I've circled the left one in the pic. Do these just pop out? I'm scared to pull too hard because it feels like I'm going to crack the fairing. They don't work like the clips at the bottom where you just push in the center and they pop out.

Also, is there a "how-to" on installing mod-required frame sliders for the '06 RR on here anywhere? If so, please point me to it. If not, I'll document my process and post it.

Push the center of the fastener and it will come loose then you can just pull it out. Use the tip of a phillips screwdriver, if you push hard enough it will come loose.

Pretty risky process doing it yourself considering you sound pretty new to all this

**** I broke both of those clips installing my frame sliders. They arent like normal clips you cant just press the center in and then pull them out. You wont crack the fairings I wouldnt worry about breaking the the clips. I just bought them from the honda store after I was dont installing mine. I think they were a ridiculous price of 5.50 for two plastic clips.

I've got a friend helping me. He did his on his gixxer inunder an hourand they came out great. Yea, those clips are like the ones in car trunks holding the felt to the frame. Seems like they'd use something a little simpler to remove. So just grip and rip, huh? I'm going to try today since the weather's decent.

FYI, I got them on. Apparently, it's a lot easier to do-it-yourself with the gixxer. With running back and forth to the hardware store for the right tools, it took me 2 days. The nut on the backside of the right engine bolt is pretty hard to get to unless you have the perfect length ratchet and a deep socket. The clips I mentioned in the original post were apparently the wrong ones because I just had to break them. I replaced them with the ones scouperacer1994 mentioned. Work like a charm now. Rip off at the Honda store, though. $2 there, $0.36 online. Also, I had to download a template online b/c the set of sliders I got didn't come with one. At the end of the day, though, they're done. Maybe didn't save much in terms of time, but saved a little cash and learned about my bike in the process.
