To paint or to powdercoat. That is my question...

I have a red/black 08 1000rr. Id like for all my silver parts to be black.

What do you think is the best way to do this? Should I have them painted flat black or powdercoated? IMO, I think powder coating would be a little cheaper and it will hold up more but I have to drive an hour to drop off the parts.

What do you think?

powder coat it.

If you want it to last and be durable then powder coat.

definately powder coat,,,,everything silver on my 07 was around 250.00,,

black stray paint is alot cheaper, lol

Ill probably have it powder coated. I was quoted a price of $195 for all the silver stuff. Levers, exhaust shield, foot pegs etc.

Im tempted to spray paint them but that just seems cheap. After spending all this money on the bike Im gonna go and spray paint parts on it? lol Maybe Ill do a couple and see how it looks. Worst case senerio I can still have them powdercoated...

spray paint will have a crap finish, look cheap, and easily flake and chip if it gets bumped into. Powedercoat is baked on, and lasts MUCH longer, and has a much nicer finish. Spray paint also cant handle heat... powdercoat can. powdercoat it!

I decided to have most of it powder coated. RRmatt from 1000rr.net did it for me. I spray painted the stock exhaust and the silver cover myself using Rustoleum high temperature paint. The paint is a flat black but after a few layers of clear it shined right up. It looks great and you cant tell any difference. I think it will hold up well.

You can see pics and info on my bike by going to http://www.1000rr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=73231

cant view pics there. not a member and dont want to be. if you put clear coat over that high temp paint then it isnt going to stay without damage. the clearcoat isnt meant for that high temp. it may even be combustible at a certain point. good luck but i dont think it is a good idea.

What do you have against 1000rr.net? That forum is much more active than this one. People seem fine on it. Typical forum banter.

I thought the same thing about the clear coat but after 100 miles it still looks just like it did when I painted it. So far so good. If it gets damaged Ill have it powdercoated. Id love a Taylormade but Im not ready to spend $900.

??? You're not shopping in the right place. A TM can be bought for less than $650 from the guy who runs the forum you mentioned.
