New parts price quote

New parts price quote
I need some input from you guys regarding my price quote for some new parts and installation plus custom map. I originally was considering either a PCIII or rear sprocket to help with the lag off the start, but after considering I will eventually end up with both and need a dyno tuning + map I figured I might as well get everything now. Here's what my local shop quoted:
PCIII 249.95
chain 122.95 RK520GXW
front sprocket 19.95 JT
rear sprocket 29.95-80ish depending on brand
arata slip-on...I have to wait until Monday so they can check on what they can get...right now they say very limited availability.
dyno+full custom map 200.00
labor 75.00 chain/sprocket
labor 65.00 slip-on (1 hour min. charge)
What brand of sprockets should I get? Should they be the same brand for the front and rear? Is the RK chain the best for our bikes with this combination of parts? Lastly, I've done no free mods. Which mods should I do before I dyno. Thanks alot for your replys...

RE: New parts price quote
do all of the installs yourself
the parts prices seem decent but you are looking at more than a few hundred bucks for labor
pc should take you 30 min
chain and sprockets 1 hr tops
slip on 30 mins
the dyno tune is actually a good price
there are countless how tos on all these things
there is a sticky on chain and sprocket here
the PC is pretty straight forward and the manual that comes with it is spot on
pipe is easy and www.hooliganbiketech.net gives a step by step how to

RE: New parts price quote
I can do the pcIII and the slip on no problem. I don't have a chain cutter and figure for 75.00 it would be better for them to do it and I would spend a fair amount in tools. What chain sprocket combo do you recommend? I bet it's probably the same ones listed in your signature.

RE: New parts price quote
I hesitate to post this link.. www.smitherscustoms.com. I'm lucky to have access to this guy in our area. He is well known and people travel from out of state to go to his shop. This is why I decided to go with everything I have listed above. Don't spread the word too much until I get my bike done.
C'mon guys...is Baxsom the only one that is going to give me any input. I know a bunch of you pros are reading this. A little guidence please.

RE: New parts price quote
ORIGINAL: CBR1000
AFAM 15/44 and the DID ERV3 520 chain. This is -1/+2 instead of -1/+1 right? Also, I read somewhere (calsportbike's site?) that the chain is only good for 4-6k miles. Is that true for street use and maybe 1-2 track days a year?
Thanks baxsom!!!! [sm=thanx.gif]

once it gets where it cant be adjusted any longer then change it.
i have 5K miles on my DID ERV chain with 3 track days being part of that and after the initial stretch common to all chains, it has never needed adjustment unless i took the rear wheel off. ( i check before every ride)

RE: New parts price quote
hey i asked this question recently too when I was about to take my bike to the dyno so atleast you're getting responses. I went with Renthal sprockets, they are alittle more expensive and I havent ran into any problems with them for a year(I also have the DID chain). Did you do the flapper mod? If you have time and mechanical skills, do the poor mans intake too.

RE: New parts price quote
Thanks for the reply. I didn't do any of the free mods yet. Did you? I'm wondering how much of an advantage it is vs problems with emissions regulations coming down the road. I read an article yesterday about the new 2008 emissions...sounds like they are going to get real strict on bikes over the next couple years.
Anyway, did you do the flapper mod before/after your dyno tuning and do you think it and the poor mans intake were worth it?
