Heat shield

I got my arata muffler. Now when it comes to the existing heat shield should I take it off, leave it on? What did the rest of you do? I put my hand on the muffler when I had it running to hear the sound of the arata and it didn’t feel to hot but then again it wasn’t running to long.

yep loose it. i was contemplating the same thing. when i got the pipe and bracket i discovered i would have to do major modifications to the heat shield to keep it. i have a Titanium Sato oval and i can actually touch the pipe without burning my hands after a ride, it is that cool. the carbon pipes i had on my 888 were even cooler to the touch.

I took it off. The muffler doesn’t even get that hot. I took it out for a ride and then let it idle for a while and I could still put my hand on it. Now I just need to get or make a bracket to hold my license plate. I like the one in the photo above.
