06' to 05' Engine Swap?

I just recently purchased a 2005 1krr and have sadley found out that the engine is blown. Luckily I have a friend with a salvaged 2006 1krr. Now I know that the bike has changed a bit for 2005 to 2006, but most of the engine specs seem to be the same. My question is: Will I be able to fit the 06' engine into my 05' frame?

I believe all of the mounting and external dimensions are the same, the changes only took place internally. so it should bolt right up.

However, you may need the ecu from the 06. I believe they are different. You may also need the wiring harness, although I think the harnesses are the same.

I can Snag all of that from the salvaged one. I kinda figured I would have to change that too but wasen't quite sure.

Thanks for the Advice! :icon_teeth:

engine swap

the 06 motor will go right in. If you plan to use your 05 wiring and ecu you"ll need the speed sensor and cam sensor from the 05 to swap into the 06 motor. Ive done this swap before. If you want to use the 06-07 ecu you'll have to have the 06-07 wiring harness as well.

Did your 06 come with the harness and complete airbox and TB's? The mounting location for the 04-05 ecu is up by the steering stem on a bracket that supports the radiator.

Do you need any parts Ive talked about here? If so, let me know because I was building a 07 and plans changed.
