there really isn't much as far as doing work to the engine to get lowend power on a 600.
as far as best bang for the buck...regear and you'll get your low end.

it would just be wierd to redo the engine to gain low end. i suppose you could bore it out for more HP.

Exactly -- the 600's never were intended for low end torque. You get a nice short stroke which = high rpm fun. I know that isn't what ya wanted to here but for the $$ involved in making it a low rpm horse is kinda silly. A full exhaust with PCIII plus degree'd cam sprockets will help a bit but still won't pull til you hit big rpms. Even though they make more power than I'd ever have believed, the old quote is still true -- "there's no replacement for displacement".

That is the case with the short stroke motors. We have some of the guys with the 600 in race cars, stroking the cranks to get some bottom end.

Default RE: 600 Low End Power

So this is not something my bike is facing; I was wondering why the LOW end is so BAD.

I am looking at doing some mods to achieve some low end, I am looking at playing around with the following aspects (My Next Project)

:- Exhaust; (Once i get the measurement; maybe run them on simulators)
:- Carbs / Air Filters
:- Gearing ( As long as i do not lose any top-end)
:- Timing / CDI
:- Some Weight Loss (Both me and the BIke )

Do let me know if anyone has some inputs on this

These motors are designed as top end power. That is; short stroke and multi valve design. Basically thet is what you get when you buy a small displacement multi valve engine.
Any modification that enhances breathing is a top end modification. More camshaft, bigger carbs, this stuff will not help bottom end. What will is making a bigger motor, bore and/or stroke increases. As you increase the engine displacement, without increasing the breathing, you are moving the powerband lower down the rpm range.

I did the 520 conversion on mine and put a bigger cam in it to gain that top end back.
