Long Road Trip in June
Like the Title says I am going on a long road trip to California in June. Here is the basic route I am planning on going: Chanhassen, MN to Chanhassen, MN - Google Maps Also will be spending time on a few of the roads out there North of San Fransisco and North of Los Angeles. My plans are to leave Minnesota on June 8th and be back in Minnesota around June 24th or so. I am taking 3 weeks off of work for this trip so I am not rushed getting back.
Here are some of the roads I am going to be hitting up while out there:
Tuna Canyon Road tuna canyon rd - Google Maps
PCH North of San Fransisco Sausalito, CA to Marshall, CA - Google Maps
Mulholland Drive Mulholland Drive, Los Angeles, CA - Google Maps
CR 23 in Topanga Canyon CR 27, topanga canyon, CA - Google Maps
CR 33 Near Ojai CR 33 ojai CA - Google Maps
If anyone has any other roads suggestions post them up. Also while i am out there I will keep my eyes out for group rides on the forums.
I will be doing NO CAMPING on this trip, my idea of roughing it is a hotel that does not have wifi.
I also will be doing a blog for this trip updating it daily, and will post a link to the blog once I leave. For anyone interested in that sort of thing.
Thanks all.

While I absolutely love camping - with a 4x4 and tents etc - I see you there with regard to Hotels!
That is excatly what Mrs SB and I did for 3000 or more km through Vietnam for 5 weeks, booking the next night on Agoda.com and more recently for 1500 km through New Zealand. We stayed with forum member Kiwi TK and his family in NZ, then some friends I met on previous overseas tours and finally were handballed down south to people KiwiTK's brother, Kiwi JK knew. We stayed in a hotel 1 night out of 10
My point being there are ways and there are ways to do long distance touring.
In Australia we have the FarRiders (of which I am a member) which is associated with the Iron Butt Association in the States. Every year, we have a few riders stay overnight at various times on the way through to somewhere.
There may be forum members who are willing to put you up for a night on your journey. All you can do is ask. And I have to say ALL of the forum members I have met either in Adelaide, Melbourne or overseas have been BRILLIANT!!
Good luck with your trip.
Cheers, SB

I have a recommendation. When you get to Cali, take the 10 to Banning and Palm Springs. From there there are some really great roads that go through to mountains and to the wine country. Banning has the 243 through Idyllwild to the 74, while Palm springs has the 74. They meet up with the 371 and 79 at Palomar mountain road. Palomar is one of the best rides in the state. You can take the 74 all the way to the coast and take the 5 north back to your route unless you feel like taking Pacific coast Hwy (1) north along the beach. The PCH goes all the way to northern cal along the coast.
The Temecula valley has great things to do and many nice places to stay.
Are you going alone?
