Default Painting helmet

Gonna be painting the bike soon and was wondering if you can paint helmets also? I've read mixed things about painting them. I read where the chemicals in the paint can affect the strength and integrity of the helmet, which I don't want. Just wondering what everyone's opinion is here? Sorry if it's in the wrong section.

Was always told to leave stuff like that alone when I was doing my license by the instructors.

At the end of the day you have no idea what the paint could do to the strength of the helmet and its your head you're about to put in it and fire down the road on a bike.

Personally I'd either get a helmet already with a design, or find someone who does it with the right stuff and speak to them.

Thats what I have read also. Im just curious because I have seen professional riders with painted helmets. I figured if they are safe in them dragging knees and 160 mph, I should be ok at 50 mph..hahahaha

Paints not going to hurt anything, its not like your going to strip it down to the glass. You just need to scuff the factory job and shoot over it anyway. Theres a few different helmet shops around here, thats all they do. Going to add a little bit of extra weight is the worst of it.

has anyone ever done the "sharpie" paintjob on a helmet? i wanna paint my helmet with the same base coat of my bike, and draw something on it with a sharpie. is there a special marker thats needed? or is it the typical sharpie? and what about the clear coat? i feel that itll make the sharpie run?

I had an extra helmet lying around my house so I sent if off locally to a guy to paint it. Im going with a joker face and the one way see through material on the shield. I'm hoping to get it back tomorrow night so I can wear it Thursday for a local bike night. I will post some pics when I get it back. If it goes as planned, it will look bad ***!!!!!
