From interviews I had seen of him, he was truly a gentlemen racer, a lot of modern day racers should take a leaf out of his book.

I know this is an old thread, but I just found it and want to thank you for bringing this to my attention. I remember seeing John Surtees take a second behind Graham Hill at Nurburgring in 1962> That was my intro to Gran Prix racing and an interest sustained throughout my teens. Then life came along...
