How to: bigger wheels on 87-88
Here is the recepy
Front wheel
1 front mag from a cbr1000f 189 and on ( reason spokes are not the same and it would look weird)
1 new spacer for the left side of the wheel.
the right spacer is the same one ( i measured it).
1 sprocket cover from 1989 and on ( don,t forget the insert that fits on the bolt and turn the speedo cable).
One 1989 and on speedomeeter cable.
After switching the disk it takes about 15 minutes to fit everything back together.
Front fender from a vfr1986-1992, can't say about newer models and up is a sraightbolt on.
Rear wheel
1 mag fron a 1989 and up
1 new spacer for the right side of the wheel, the one between the bearing and the caliper holder ( discontinued)
you can get one made at a machine shop, it needs to be 4mm wider, if not you can use 4X 1 mm washer, it won't move because the axle is static, so it is solid.
left side spacer is the same from on model year to the next so you don't need to buy one (wheel is straight and chain is aligned with sprocket).
put everything back together and voila you got yourself a souped up cbr1000f.
Use a chaingard from a 1993 and up.
and the caliper holder that bolts to the front of te swingarm you acan modufy easily.
Inner fender from a 1993 and up , fit in under the seat ( easy)
Shadow the whell hugger would look weird and alsoyou need to place the cable arm holder differently so it won,t fit.
I'll get a inner fender from a later model and a chaingard.

Big Wheel Questions, what years?
post states that you can use mags from 89 and on
and chain gard and inner fender from 93 and up.
What specific years for each or does this include all CBR1000F's? I could be mistaken but Ithought this upgrade could only be done using a 89-95 rear wheel (F2s?). I also assumed 89-95 for the chain guard and inner fender too.
Help a newbie understand how the spokes differ from my 88 compared the 89-95 wheels. Am I not looking close enough? Perhaps this is when you use 96+ wheels (F3?).
I dont know years for F2, F3 F4 etc off hand yet so please bare with me here. I'm a muscle car guy and Hp junkie. Bike stuff is still new to me. I've only owned my 88 for 3 years and no more than ~300 miles and riding season is short in MN-USA. I've got it running and looking good now and started checking e-bay for parts to upgrade the rear wheel or possibly both front and rear. Any recommendations would be helpful.
Regards

Hey:
This is for the CBR1000F only. Also the years for this bike are MK1 late 86-88, MK2 89-92, MK3 late 92-2000.
The F1-F4 is normally reserved for the CBR 600. All wheels and Chain guard from 89-2000 are the same sizes and are interchangeable. 5.5 x 17 for the rear, 3.5 x 17 for the front, same offsets. Early wheels (86-88)are 3.5 x 17 for the rear & 2.5 x 17 for the front. MK3 front fenders fit all previous models.

For mine I may have a pic somewhere but all I did when I 1st did this back in 91 was to
dent the stay on the tire side to clear the 170 tire I had on it, not much else needed. As time has gone on, I changed to a 91+ swingarm and CBR600F3 stay as I ran a 190 tire on a RC51 6" wheel and the swingarm was extended with wheelie bar mounts.

I've put a SC24 front rim on my SC21.
When looking at the SC21 front wheel if you are standing in front of the bike there is the speedo drive gear assembly on the right, and a spacer on the left.
When you are fitting the SC24 wheel you need to take the spacer from the left and put that on the right hand side of the SC24 wheel (where the speedo drive gear was on the SC21 wheel) and then you need to fit a new 13mm spacer on the left hand side of the SC24 wheel.
It needs to exact or the brake caliper guide will grind against the brake disc on the left hand side.

One point of interest is that the original rear sprocket from an 87 has the same stud pattern as the 89 and up except that the stud size is different. You can drill out the holes from the existing 10mm (I think they were) to 12mm (may have been 8mm to 10mm not so sure now) and this has the added advantage that the standard 89 rear sprocket has 1 less tooth that the 87-88 so you have the added advantage with an 87 sprocket of perkier acceleration due to the +1 rear sprocket. I only know as I purchased a new old stock 87 sprocket for my 89 and it was 43T not 42T as mine was. Just had to drill it out to fit the my 89.
