The dos and don'ts of lowering your bike to fit you.

I have the exact same fear. Aside from the loss of handles by lowering, i too have a fear of the pegs scraping and eating sh*t. just don't lean too hard i guess. lol.

I am 5'5" and the only sport bikes that I could flat foot were the 250 and 500 Ninja, which I have had both. I wanted a bigger bike but had to tippy toe. When I finally bought a 600rr I had it lowered so I could flat foot and you know what? For me it did not change anything except that now I can put my feet down solid on the ground. It handles like a dream. I'm not a motoGP racer but I do like to take the twisties at a faster than posted speed. I'm not a knee dragger and most people aren't. So if you feel your bike is too tall, lower it and feel safe on it.
If you lower your bike or have it lowered by someone else, make sure to lower the kick stand also. If you can weld you can do it yourself, if not have someone do it for you.

I am 5'7 and instep of about 30" .
I lowered mine by making new dog bones, about 15 - 20mm
When I can be @rse'd I will trek into my shed and find the pattern out that I made and produce a how to, but only if you stop going off topic....

This article was very interesting since the new bike I'm looking at is already lowered. Being 5'7 it sounded like an alright deal but I didn't think it would really affect the performance that much and now I'm kinda worried. Last thing I want is a dumbed down version of the actual bike. To add to the second topic that started in this thread, my first (and still current) bike is a '98 f3. My "parents" wanted me to start on something smaller but like someone already stated its money issue and last thing I wanted was to get stuck on a 250cc for the next 3 years until I could comfortably afford something better. Haven't wrecked once (knock on wood) but hey that stuff can happen to even the most experienced rider.
