Default Flashing Oil Light???

The oil light is flashing on my 01 F4i... does the bike have a meter that lets you know when to change the oil or could there be another reason? The bike has plenty of oil and is not leaking...

Any ideas???

Oil light means theres something wrong with the oil pressure. #1. Not enough oil #2. Too much oil #3. Oil Pump Broken #4. Sensor is malfunted. If its #1 you either didn't put enough in or its burning oil which means theres a gasket inside the motor thats leaking.

Edit: Does it flash when the bike is not moving at all?

Yep the light flashes when i start the bike and its sitting...and continuesafter you drive it.

1. judging by the little window theres enough oil...
2. Oil has not been changed since last season so shouldnt be too much (i just bought the bike)
Dunno about 3 and 4... but theres no blue/white smoke and no visible oil leak.

Im gonna have a closer look but im assuming so far that theres not enough oil....

Don't overfill the bike.[:@] Follow the manual... if it's supposed to be between 2 lines on a site glass while off and straight up and down, then if this is true, I wouldn't mess with it, it should be fine. Next up I would think that the sensor might be bad. (I lean strongly on a sensor messing up before the actual oil pump)

Proper oil level #1, #2 Sensor okay?, #3 ???, #4 Profit!

oil light is for pressure not so much for level if your level is ok then you have aa viscosity issue. When you change the oil make sure it doesnt smell of gas,I have that problem fuel getting in and lowering the viscosity. When you change the oil have the level to the upper full line when warm and level not on the stand. After riding for a few days check it and if the level has gone up theres probably fuel getting in.

check the wiring between the gauges and the sensor. If a wire is broken or rubbed, or something is unplugged, the light will come on.

I agree, but if somehow the pick-up is clogged with something(don't ask me what) you could get less than the 5 psi that is usually required for blinky death light.
