What pipe diameter is F4i for aftermarket slip on?

Default What pipe diameter is F4i for aftermarket slip on?

I'm looking at a few aftermarket slip on pipes, at the moment my bike (2005 F4i) has the stock system. A lot of the 'universal' type pipes say 35 mm to 51 mm. Does the stock F4i fall into that category?

I'm looking at these universal types on Ebay but don't want something too loud, but still louder than stock.

Well, since you have the bike why dont you go measure the diameter of the pipe, then you'll have the answer to your question.

Yes I can, and have already done that, but it depends where I need to connect it. I thought someone else on here may have also bought one of these universal slip ons and could share their experience, no harm in asking. The pipe diameter where it comes out just after the two into one junction is 48 mm, so I'm assuming an additional extender pipe would be needed as well as the slip on.

You're more than welcome. Glad I could help. Also, if you bought a muffler that was actually made for your bike then there would be no need for "additional extender pipe".

I'll have a look and see if I can find one actually made for the bike, from memory there were a few on ebay for the F4i.

unless you chop the stock exhaust rear section, you really need a complete midpipe and slip-on.. and due to the bend, systems made for most other bikes wont fit well, or at all, unless you are a hack like me that is willing to make hangers, bend, chop, and rivet a system into place with no regard for how it looks.

be careful with no-name ebay slip-ons, they're good at three things: too loud, crappy fitment, and horrible torque loss

that pipe does a lot of really important work and it's really finely tuned. it's not just a silencer, it's a very specific exhaust pulse velocity modifier, and your bike isn't really capable of self-tuning, so any exhaust changes throw your fueling off and make things even worse. try taking it off one day and go for a ride if you don't believe me, it'll turn it into a scooter until you rev it out, and you will reconsider trying to make off-brand stuff fit your bike.

if you're on a budget you should be able to get a used yoshi on ebay for 'bout $150-$200 if you wait around, that way at least you don't have to worry too much about crappy performance or bad fitment.

even if you pay for a new one, it's worth the extra dough to avoid yourself many hundreds of dollars of headache medication later.

if you buy a yoshi and it's too loud for you, you have the option to buy a silencer insert for it too, and their silencer inserts don't hurt performance much. that's important too

an akro, two brothers, or hindle would be a good score too, if you come across one....

Cheers rfesu, very good advice indeed, I may just hold out and find a Yoshi, Two Brothers Leo Vince etc. I certainly don't want it too loud (nor would my neighbours.)
