I was warming up my bike in the garage the other day and I heard what I think was valvetrain noise. It was a fast ticking noise.. reminds me of the noise OHV car engines make. I can't remember if this is normal and the reason I noticed it was that the bike was in a closed-in area with lots of echo, or what.

It seemed to go away when I revved the motor, but came back when I let it back down to idle. I think it's normal and our motors just aren't tuned to run well at idle speed. What do you guys think?

 

when i had my major 16k mile maintinence done on my F4i the sound went away. they adjusted the valves and no more "knocking" or "ticking" at idle.

 

Think it's worth getting the adjustment done before next season? Motor has 9k miles.

 

well, from what i understand there's two major maintinence......the 10k and the 16k. so you may be due for that 10k shortly. just my guess.

there's nothing to do at 10K. maybe plugs, fork oil, regular oil change, etc.

major is at 16K.

the tick you hear can be many things, including leaky exhaust. most F4i's i've worked on didn't need any valve adjustments, all still within spec at 16K.
