Default cheap after-market R/R

So every1 has a R/R(regulator rectifier) issue at some point with the F1/F2 models. Its mainly because it heats up every ride.

This is the ebay excellent R/R that works great. Its wiring harness plugs right in and requires very little modifications. but incase this link stops working here is a picture of what it looks like.

I got mine for as little as 20$ and it fixed my charging issue the second I mounted it to my F2. You will need to bore a new mounting hole because this R/R is a little bigger than the stock one. but as you can see this design has a much better cooling system due to the heat sinks. go ahead and do a ebay search for -Honda CBR600F2 Regulator Rectifier- and look for one that looks like this

I just installed a new battery on my 1997 CBR f3 (Yuasa YTX9-BS).
I decided to buy and install a GSXR600 K2 R/R. Got it on ebay for £15 - bargain. Also I think mine might of needed an upgrade more than most as I have an undertail installed so less air flow for cooling.

All is working very well so far. This thread was a great help.
Perhaps these photos will help someone else in a similar situation.

1. Removing original R/R:

2. Drilled new holes in mounting plate. Changed a bolt that would not fit underneath the R/R. I also had to cut the new bolt down so that the bike seat would not hit it.

3. Fitted with thermal cpu compound. This is the only location I found where it would fit flat on the old mounting plate and also not collide with the rear fairing. The GSXR R/R has a a recess in the middle allowing it to fit over the flat bolt you see in the photo above.

4. I drilled an extra hole to use as an earth.

5. Soldered the wires together.

6. Then wrapped in electrical tape and heatshrink tubing(3mm or 4mm heatshrink would of worked better. I used 6mm). For an F3: White-Green, Red-Red, 3 Black-3 Yellow

7. All done

8. Size comparison. Left is Honda R/R. Right is Suzuki R/R.

I am not a professional so this is not a how-to, just an explanation of how I did it.

This is just what I got. Works fine, system charges at just above 14v, so current is good. Doesn't bolt up the same, but holes are the right size. I just have 1 bolt in and it stays put fine. I think anyone who pays $100+ for an RR, got ripped off. I think I paid $19 for mine.

I bought this exact R/R from ebay and put on my F2. The other day I was on a joyride and the bike lost all power, almost instantly. Tried to start again and battery was nearly dead. If it was the R/R, it lasted maybe a tad over 2000 miles. Is there anyone with this particular r/r who's put more than 3 or 4 thousand miles on it? Starter just made that classic clicking noise when battery is nearly depleted. Question is, did the bike stop because the battery was depleated or because the r/r failed? When I got it towed to the garage, I installed the 2nd R/R (similar or same model, just silver metallic color). Put the battery on the Tender, let charge for about 30 minutes and it fired right up. And been running as normal for 40+ miles. Funny thing is that the rectifier never seemed to get very hot and there was no burning smell from the R/R, plug or wires whatsoever. If the problem was the rectifier, I can only assume that it's the poor electronics inside the r/r and not necessarily excessive heat. My main question is what YEAR gsx rectifier works the BEST or behaves closest to what the factory F2 R/R behaves. Like the amount of charge at idle and on up to 5000 RPM. Suzuki made a lot of style bikes with a lot of different style parts. I've heard of small issues of different make rectifiers in the F2, like lights getting brighter with higher rpm. I wan't the rectifier that won't get me stranded on a trip across state, but is also the most compatible with my F2.

Honda Suzuki

1 Red ( positive) 1 black/red
1 green( negative) 1 black/white

Let me know if you have anymore questions
PS I tried emailing you this but I got error message

Why not just get a new Honda OEM reg/rec? They are fairly cheap, very reliable and they are no hassle plug n ride.
That's what I've done several times on different bikes. OEM ones have been updated.

Also you've got an F4, not an F2, so this post might be better in the F4 section instead of the F2 Tech.
But they may use the same reg/rec, so my advice still holds.

On the F2 you can take 2 wires on the Suzuki R/R and switch their places in the plug and remove the walls on the Suzuki R/R and it will plug right in to the Honda harness plug, then use zip tie to secure from unplugging by accident.

Even better to go with modern series-circuit RR. SH-775 or SH-847
These only pass as much current as needed to power bike's electronics and re-charge battery. Rather than always driving stator at 100%. Keeps stator and wiring much, much cooler.

yea but they come with two ports and require you to splice into the wires to connect it to this bike. Ricks is made for this bike and is mosfet and cheaper

question tho for anyone. We pulled out the r/r and it reads SH-693-12 is this the newer oem rectifier Honda put for this bike or is this some cheap eBay r/r previous owner bought, is it not mosfet? Also a guy said earlier in this thread “just buy oem they updated it” if I do have the newer oem updated version why is my rectifier and ports toast if they fixed it.
