I took tons of pictures when I took mine apart for a good cleaning so that I wouldn't forget the order or locations of things. If anyone wants them I have them.

Hello everybody,


I've been working with a colleague of mine on his CBR 600 F2 from 1991.
We have done the following:
Found out that compression is low P1 8.5bar, P2 8 bar, P3 8 bar, P4 7.5. We have checked the valve clearances and adjusted accordingly. We then remeasured and got 14.5, 13.5, 14, 13 bars. We managed to hit the sweet spot with the valve clearance adjustment.
We then proceded to change the oil, oil filter and clean out the carbs.
Pilot jets are 38s while the main jets are 132. We found out that in the vacuum sliders the needle had a shim under it under all 4 carbs. We took it out suspecting it is a aftermarket mod (please could someone confirm if this comes stock out of factory with shim under needle or not!?).
Bike has K&N sport air filter and a slip on can from Sebring.
We then put the darn sync tools on the carbs. Managed to get equal values on all 4.
Last step was to adjust mixture screw as per manual description. Bike runs fine but when it gets to around over 90 degrees until the fan hits it idles fine but then dies.
We put voltmeter and shows a consisten 12.9V. Regulator is brand new. Cranks the bike and doesn't start. Cranks again open a lil bit the throttle and then starts. Is this normal?
With a weak battery there will be no chance to start it....


Can someone give some feedback if we did miss something.

Hey Guys...awesome write up on carb cleaning. One question do i have too remove
the the pilot jet in the bottom of carb for the D-shaped wrench id rather leave it at spec setting..
bike ran great... sat a few months. Starts rite up but dies if i snap the throttle after warm. Thanks!

The solution is to count the turns until the pilot screw seats. Write it down, then remove for cleaning. Then it's just a matter of reinstalling it, lightly seating it, and turning it back out the correct number of turns

Unfortunately, when carbs get plugged up, it's usually the small passages that get plugged.
The pilot screw (which affects idle) is a small passage. It's the most common one to get plugged.
So yeah, you need to clean it to fix your problem.
Just do what Tentacleslap said.
