Fair asking price for a 1997 CBRF1000 in Australia
Hi all,
I have come across a 1997 CBRF1000 in very good condition, not sure what its like mechanically as yet as I have not heard it run however the plastics are perfect, not faded at all and no major scratches. The pipes are standard and do have a few scratches however. It is a deceased estate so has no rego or roadworthy but doesn't look to need much. It has just under 60,000kms on the clock.
What would be a fair price if its mechanically sound?
Cheers,
Ben

Welcome to the CBR Forum Ben,
Now that is a difficult question to answer. The bike essentially is worth what you are willing to pay for it.
Prices for CBR1000Fs in Australia are widely disparate due to location and condition of the bike.
I've bought from as low as $700 up to $2,500 AUD - the later for a PRISTINE 1992.
I don't like linked brakes so have never seriously entertained a Mark III as a purchase but the latest models seem to start at about $4,000 up to a dizzying and delusional $7,000 - but I haven't looked for the last few months.
Have a look at the Red book price as well
Used Motorcycle Research - Compare Used Motorcycles - New and used motorcycle prices - RedBook.com.au
For a 1998 cbr1000f
Private Prices $3,700 - $4,400
Trade In Prices $2,500 - $2,900
Hope that helps.
Cheers, SB

Welcome, Ben
Trust SB and the OZ/Kiwi branch of the forum to steer you right.
Question #1. Do you ride? Do you know bikes?
No offense, but can you you look it in the mouth and know what you're getting?
If you're going to take a flyer on this bike and buy it.
Trust that all the help you need is here.

Thanks for that SB and wooferdog,
Great forum by the way, so much info on here.
Yes, I have been riding for years, its not my first bike, won't be my last, but it seemed to fit the my needs at the moment.
I will get it checked out before I hand over any of the folding stuff. But it seems that the price that is on it is reasonable .
Cheers for that,
Ben

Hi all,
I took it for a little test ride yesterday...fun Well it looks like I can get it for $3000, but no rego or roady, needs new tires, speedo is way out so probably a new cable, a few little things here and there, should have it on the road for another $600 and then rego on top of that. I look forward to sending a pic once I have cleaned her up.
Cheers,
Ben
