Default 954 Tranny Issues

ok, I have owned a 02 cbr954 for 3 years and the transmission is very annoying.
I have a power commander and quick shifter installed and it always misses between 1st and 2nd and 3rd and 4th. it was always was temperamental before the install but this just amplifies the issue.
does anyone have the same issues ? with or with out a quick shifter ?
I do track days and commute with this bike.
I absolutely love my bike other than the transmission problems.

what's going to fix this problem ? a complete tranny rebuild ? undercut gears ?
new shift forks ?drum ? shift shaft ?

Anyone with transmission experience on the 954 please chime in !

When you say "misses", do you mean the bike grabs second gear and slips out, or you have difficulty getting into second gear? I've seen a couple of 954s' drums have notches that cause hard shifting, but yours sounds like it could be forks as well...

It can allso be the gears. They are pretty weak on the 954. I got them cutted when i rebuilt the engine and it made a huge difference. Haven't missed a shift since. I allso had to replace the shift shaft and one fork. I got billet shaft shortened from the ZX14 shaft. And allso if your clutch is worn it could affect the shifting. I rebuilt the clutch allso.

Hey conrice tranny update........
Had my bike tested by Jim Sabin @ Sabin performance here in dallas and confirmed my fears! prolly a bad 2nd gear and maybe 3rd or fourth.I'm going to have to split case unfortunately so I bought all new shift forks a new shift drum and shift spindle. I also ivested in a evo pro shift kit since I'm tearing it all apart anyway might as well go all ***** in Huh ! then when we split case we will determine what gears we will replace then send it out for undercutting! so when its done I will have a bullet proof tranny for the track and my quick shifter will perform flawlessly !

Sorry to hear. If your bike is grabbing 2nd and slipping out under power, Sabin is probably right. Hopefully its easy going from here, keep us updated.

No need to buy new gears then have them undercut. My transmission showed a lot of wear but was still good enough to be undercut keeping all the stock gears. Not had any missed shifts since. Check with Ray @ Xtreme Motorsports to have it done for a great price compared to most places.
