Interesting starting problem - 2000 CBR 929
Hello,
I have searched the forums and I could not find an answer to my question.
I have a 2000 CBR929 that is hard to start after the bike has sat for a week. (I mainly ride on weekends.)
Info and Symptoms:
Battery is brand new. 12.8V with bike off.
Bike will start to crank and then stop as if the battery is dead. (It will do this even if it has been on the battery tender the whole time it sat).
Battery shows 12.4V after attempted start.
I put the 10amp charger on the bike and it will start right up. Once the bike is started, it will continue to start with no problems for the rest of the weekend.
The bike is bone stock, there are no add on electronics (radar detector, etc.) wire harnes was never cut, I cannot find any draws while the bike sits.
Fuel pump starts up when the key is turned on, the wires from the regulator/rectifier are in good condition.
Idle - 14.2V at the battery
5000RPM -14.9-15.0V at the battery
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Brian

All,
Sorry for the delay in responding, I needed to wait for a few days for the problem to happen again.
I waited for the problem to resurface. I then took a known good starter/starter solenoid and installed it. The bike started just fine.
I did not do any diagnostics on the old starter/solenoid.
Thanks again for all the good advice and diagnostic ideas.
