Default Refreshing my 900 '97

Hi,

So recently I decided that the time has come to change bikes and got a 900 rr 1997. (previous bike was cbr 600 f2 '92)
Bike is in overall good shape, but.... the 2nd gear is poping out under load.
After doing some research I assume this is a typical problem for this bike?
Still not shure how hard it is to repair this, but I assume it depends on the damadge, gears, forks or drum or the worst case scenario all of them.

Anyway here are some pics of the bike un current state:
<a href=''><img src='https://failiem.lv/thumb.php?i=uw45d2e9&n=motorcycles-honda-3-3810078.800.jpg' alt='Failu hostings' border='0' /></a>
<a href=''><img src='https://failiem.lv/thumb.php?i=c53z2u5m&n=motorcycles-honda-3-3810079.800.jpg' alt='Failu hostings' border='0' /></a>
<a href=''><img src='https://failiem.lv/thumb.php?i=926w2xc2&n=motorcycles-honda-3-3810217.800.jpg' alt='Failu hostings' border='0' /></a>

Planned to do list:
-Fix the gearbox
-Repaint (plastics, frame, rims)
-Change the tail (maybe)
-Fit steering damper
-Chain and sprockets
-Brake pads
-Liquids
-Change the front fender (previous model)

So right now all I can do is to wait for weather to get a bit warmer and search for parts.

Has anybody done tail swap form the facelifted model?
Somehow for me the square taillight does not connect with the round headlight so Im thinking of swapping.
Honestly im looking forward to a simple "plug and play" tail swap. Welding or cutting existing subframe may be beyond me.

I assume side fairings and rear light bracket has to be changed.
How about the seats ?
Am I missing something?

Gearbox -

Finally today got access to gearbox.
The bike jumps out of 2nd gear under load so its gears, forks or drum? Right?
At this point only damage I was able to spot was on the shifter drum. (from clutchless shifting?)
Realy could not tell are forks bent and all gears looked pretty much the same.
Any comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Subframe -

This came as a bad surprise, subframe has a crack top right end.
So is this weldable? Or better to search for replacement?

Exhaust -

Assuming this is not original?

Steering Damper -

Has anyone successfully installed (and how) this type of damper without losing the ability to lock the steering?

So today finally disassembled everything needed to get my hands on shifter drum and forks. Left fork has suffered a lot, two others has no sight of abnormal wear, shifter drum has damage where only where left fork sits, everything else seems fine.
Two normal looking fork specs are just on service limit (limit o.d. 5.9mm i.d. 12.03mm mine were o.d. 6.0mm i.d. 11.90) I guess there is no point in leaving them, Ill replace all three of them. Fork shaft is not bent, but on right side it is 11.96mm and on the left 11.95 (service limit) that's were damaged fork was. everything else is in spec. except for clutch basket springs, they are 5mm shorter than spec.

Well today I received parts for gearbox and also its the worst day... yet.
It turns out that the bike is 96 but the gearbox is from 94-95 model, so the parts do not fit

Now I am searching for new gearshift drum for 900rr 94 and there just aren't any! Everything else I managed to find, except for the damn drum itself.

Maybe there is a way to repair the thing?
Maybe there is a alternative that fits? e.g. shift forks are the same on 600f2 94 and 900rr 94, does anybody know about shift drum? are they the same?

I'm not gonna lie, this is a bit frustrating and pretty discouraging

Yeah, there is some serious wear on that drum. It doesn't surprise me to hear the fork has wear too. Sorry to hear about the wrong parts. You can go on BikeBandit or RonAyers to compare part #s from other models. I'm not sure if another one will work or not...

You can Weld the crack on the subframe.

It looks like someone tried to make their own baffle for the exhaust. If it doesn't rattle and the bike runs okay, you could leave it...
