Bought a cbr 600 a little over a month ago, and it has given me nothing but trouble since. After ordering some new parts and cleaning or changing everything, I've got the bike all put back together.

Last night, I put the fuel tank back on, attached the fuel level sensors and tried to start the bike up. The engine wouldn't turn over, so I did a bit of troubleshooting and found that the fuel pump wasn't working. When I turn the key to the "on" position, the fuel pump gets no power, and doesn't pressurize the line.

I took my handy multimeter, and measured the voltage across the fuel pump's electrical hookup (the connection that goes from the battery to the fuel pump). When I turn the bike on, I get an instantaneous 12 volts, but it immediately drops back down to 0.

Is there some sort of switch or relay that senses something wrong and shuts off the current to the fuel pump? I know the fuel pump was working prior to my taking the bike apart, and I didn't touch it when I was doing other maintenance. I've checked the fuel lines for clogs, etc., but all that is secondary to the fact that the fuel pump isn't getting any electricity. Also, I know it isn't a faulty battery.

 

Fuel pump relay is located on the subframe, right hand side as you're sitting on it. It's the one that has 3 wires coming out of it.

A good way to test the pump is to follow the wires coming out of the pump and unplug the little connector and "jump" the connection with jumpers from your battery. This should turn the pump on.
