my cbr fighter build thread
hey all thought id start a build thread seen as i actually started it after a year
i first bought the bike of one of my college mates
when i bought it he showed me it ran it looked in good condition so thought can't go wrong for £300. when i got home i started it up all was fine except the ticking noise which i heard was a common problem with the tensioner so didn't bother me that much so took it for a ride down to southport not to far from mine,as i'm riding along one of my side panels flew of luckily there was no one there so got to nearest shop and taped it up and carried on. next day wouldn't start no electrics nothing checked the battery was completely dead charged it and working for a day or to then dead again so checked for a drain found one in an old alarm took the loom out and had a look at it was in a mess whoever had these prior my mate did a bad job found a cheap untouched loom on the trusty ebay but in the time that came i thought i know what be a good idea lets see what else wrong and sort it so first on the list was the engine. the engine was filthy looks like it hast had a wash in the 26years its been running which made me think i'm going to regret this but when i opened it up it wasn't actually bad at all was pretty shocked.
The main frame was in good condition but the subframe was falling to bits seen a few people go with the rr look and i thought yaa i like that so stripped the rest of the bike took the frame into the college workshop but seen as i had very limited amount of money and no welding equipment had to find a alternative.
so started chopping
then came the how we going to do this but managed to figure a way that could work so got a start on it we got some solid ally rods cut em to size to fit them into the old frame and then bolted them to it and made a plate to put the new subframe on
made a new bracket for the seat and tank
why i was doing this i also seen an rr swing arm with guard shock and linkages also with the brakes for £60 so i had to get them and as i have seen a few do this customization thought ya why not lets give it a go ran into a snag as where i need to cut it would leave me with only a 1/3 of the right hand side and worked out like 10mm of ally at the weakest point and would give it to much flex so i have taken it to a machinist to make few modifications to it but will take two weeks so i'm at a bit of a halt until then

Looks like an awesome start. I almost cried when I saw the tail angle then I realized how the frame was sitting. As for the swingarm mine is much wider than 10mm in width its only slightly narrower than the chain side. In the 15 miles I made it on mine before the issue I never noticed anything flexing but the spacer I had made is much longer than needed.
I definitely can't wait to see how it comes out though

Just some cheap eBay ones my mate had lying around I prefer the drag style look aswell plus as I have the 04 rr front end everything fits nicely so no need for extended lines will swap them for some decent ones when I have money but seen as thats getting taken up trying to replace my shock it won't be for a while
